Fashion Friday

Since it was my birthday on Monday I have been online shopping/browsing for a while for the perfect present. I'm a purse hoarder/lover and knew that's what I wanted. But I'm very picky and like quality ones. So enter Anthropologie, which I've never been to but heard so much about through other bloggers. This is what I found and ordered for a reasonable price because I'm a bargain girl too!

I can't wait until it comes and I can use it!

Onto food for the day. It's really hard to get good lighting in my house. I'm trying different things, so this morning was on the living room floor with my grapefruit juice and arnolds thin peanut butter sandwich.
09032010 001 [Desktop Resolution].JPGI love using my Amazing grass bottle for all beverages, it's perfect. And those arnolds thin buns are the best invention ever. So light and chewy, moist and dense. The peanut butter I used was from Target that I get when I was home in Minneapolis. I think it was called white chocolate cranberry? It didn't last very long in my house, actually no peanut butter does.

09032010 003 [Desktop Resolution].JPGLunch was my favorite combo ever: an amazing braeburn apple, cottage cheese and some walnuts. The apples right now in this area are so good. I can't wait until honeycrisp come out though. I hope I don't get sick of them before Fall really starts!

I'm now waiting for the husband to get home. Tonight is either going to include High School football or a trip to the wonderful Sioux City for some fun.
Only 2 more weeks till the little one comes and I want to take full advantage of the time with my husband.

What's your favorite fruit right now?

So I had no intentions of disappearing from blogging but life got in the way again!  My mom surprised me last Friday night by flying into town for the weekend for my birthday since  I couldn't exactly be 4 hours away from home being 37 weeks pregnant!  We went shopping Saturday with my MIL and got some fun baby stuff, then went out to dinner: Mexican of course because I've been craving it like crazy.
Monday my actual 25th birthday was a good day in general. Started off rocky with an emotional pregnant woman breakdown. Went to work but was sent home and told to rest. I took a nap for the first time in forever and it felt great!
That night we went out to dinner again for my birthday, Mexican of course. Guacamole has never tasted so good. Still craving a margarita though:(
Tuesday was another doctors appt. where I was put on 1/2 days for work and was checked to be 2 cm dilated!  I'm really hoping that I go a little early because of how much pain I'm in and the no sleep I'm getting.
Wednesday my husband and I toured the hospital, although I already seen it and it's really small. It will be perfect and I can't wait to get it all over with. Also got a cortisone shot and some pain pills to get me through the next 2-3 weeks!

Food lately, besides Mexican, has been normal me:
Breakfasts - arnolds thin bun with peanut/almond butter with a grapefruit
Lunches - apples, cantaloupe, plums, any other fruits with some cottage cheese and walnuts/trail mixes
Dinners - salads consisting of lots of hot sauces, salsas or guacamole! and of course ice cream for dessert!

Pictures of meals will start again tomorrow, but in the mean time I got a package yesterday in the mail from a company that sent me their products I'm assuming to review on my blog. I wasn't contacted by them, just randomly sent their products. But I've these on other blogs recently so I'm really excited to try this!

Terra Chips in 4 delicious flavors with the coolest chip bowl I've ever seen or a soon to used as Margarita holder when I can have one!
090210 002 [Desktop Resolution].JPGI've never had kabocha or carrots in chip form, but it sounds pretty good along with Mexican exotic vegetable flavor. Right up my alley as of lately.

Blue potato chips and the original, my husband was very skeptical but I can't wait to dip in with some salsa!

Off to watch my Minnesota Gophers play some football. And enjoy the cool weather here in Iowa!

Zevia Love

Today was a beautiful day here in NW Iowa, sunny, hot and so perfect for running. But since I can't run I choose to walk. Over the past 2 months I've had to learn to give up my beloved running and take up walking. It was really hard at first for a hard-core runner like myself, but I feel better and better everyday. When I'm cleared to start running again I will definitely be right back into and maybe go a little crazy but for now it's all about the baby:)
When done walking today I found a fun package on my front door step. A package from Zevia full of their wonderful diet pop varieties. I love this product so much and have reviewed it once before on this blog so when Margaret contacted me again to give it another review I was ecstatic to say the least!
I'm addicted to diet pop in general so having an all-natural kind made with stevia makes this love even sweeter! The varieties I got to sample were Twist, Orange, Cola, Black Cherry, Ginger Root Beer and Ginger Ale. I already tried the root beer today and my husband (who doesn't drink pop) wanted the black cherry so bad so I let him have it. Of course I loved the root beer flavor, brings back so many childhood memories! My husband fell in love with the black cherry flavor and asked where we can buy it. I hope I can find some at Hy-Vee this weekend because I will be buying more already.

*My wall of Zevia sent to me free from a great company*

So this is the fun part: A GIVEAWAY of one mixed 6 pack of this delicious pop. All you have to do is:

  1. Tell me your favorite diet pop flavor, if you've tried Zevia I want to know which one you like?
  2. Add me to your blogroll or google reader and leave a second comment telling me this.
This contest is open to U.S. Residents only and will run through Friday, August 27th @ 9pm central time!

One more thing. I took a picture of my breakfast for tomorrow that I pre-planned tonight. I love bread with peanut/almond butter and have it every morning with some grapefruit. So tomorrow it will be a Joseph's wrap with some Skippy peanut butter all rolled up. Just thought it was a fun looking roll-up!

Confession

I have a confession to make: I LOVE COOKIE DOUGH! And when you are a pregnant woman craving something you have to give in. Although a lot of people probably think I'm crazy eating something with raw eggs, I will say I didn't eat the whole packages! I really just needed to taste it and top it with peanut butter. Craving satisfied. I was reading Evan's(FoodMakesFunFuel.com) post this morning and he had a recipe for cookie dough without eggs. I died and went to heaven. After realizing I had all the ingredients and made it in 5 minutes flat. It is now chilling in the fridge with the addition of peanut butter! Here is his exact recipe: 1/2 cup unsalted butter 1/2 cup granulated sugar 1 cup flour 1/2 tsp. salt 3 tbsp. milk (I used almond milk) 1 tsp. vanilla I can't wait to dig in soon! Another fun thing today I thought I would show you all is my cupboard of food. Standard but I like seeing everyone's else's so I thought I would share mine. I have lots of nut mixes, dried fruits, croutons, crackers, bars, gummies, flax, wheat germ, baking supplies, sea salt, pepper, cocoa powder, canned beans, pizza crust mixes, quinoa, and of course my favorite: nut butters! I think I have 3 or 4 jars right now plus 4 Justin's Almond Butter packets. What is your confession today?

My daily eats

So my day started out later than usual. I've been trying to get as much sleep as possible before baby comes and it's really hard! I'm very uncomfortable and I don't "sleep in." Breakfast was unpictured because I'm still trying to get back into this blogging thing and was so hungry I forgot! It was some grapefruit and some Hawaiian bread (my favorite carb, don't care that it's white bread!) Lunch was my favorite combo, which I have almost everyday anyways but today it was with a really, really good Braeburn apple from New Zealand. It's really hard to find good fruit here in NW Iowa so when I find a good one I stock up lots! I work 11-7pm these days being on light duty and having a herniated disk. It's pretty laid back and I get to sit outside, paint nails and do puzzles with the elderly. I work at a Nursing home as a CNA and am in school for my second degree in Nursing. Came home to hot and humid weather, watched the hubby mow the lawn and turned the AC back on:( I wish it would cool down just a little, I hate AC and would rather have windows open 24/7. Dinner will be shown in steps. I always have some kind of salad for dinner. So many variations and yummy combos so I can never get sick of them! Tonight started out as a bed of broccoli slaw: Added protein of kidney beans: CHEESE:) Raw pizza crackers, so good! Here is the package: And my "dressing" tonight is salsa with a side of my kitty, Lizzy! Of course sometimes there is dessert too and tonight is was an unpictured pink cupcake! So overall I tend to eat the same 3 meals almost everyday, just different variations. It works for me and my past ED situation, although when I start running again it will be more of the food! Do you eat the same meals everyday or need variety everyday? Off to watch Real Housewives of D.C.!

Home = Minneapolis

This past weekend I had the pleasure of attending 2 Baby Showers given by friends and family in my hometown of Minneapolis. Actual hometown is a suburb but for sake of knowing big city I'll say I'm from Minneapolis! Even though I only live in Iowa and driving home would be 4 hours, my mom offered to fly me home from Sioux City to MSP International. It was a short 45 minute flight and I loved every minute of it! Once home I made several trips to "real" grocery stores, Target and of course Trader Joe's! My mom and I walked a lot, went to the local YMCA and went to dinner at my favorite restaurant: Don Pablos! This weekend was the last weekend I would be spending with just the four original family members: my mom, dad and my younger brother. It was a special weekend and since my brother had just gotten home from China from a missionary trip it was even more exciting. We made a special Oriental dinner of bulgogi, kim-chi, rice and salad! If you've never had this, you need to make it. I'll even give you my dad's recipe, it's that amazing! We also spent quite some time looking at my brothers pictures from his trip and his "fun" trip to Hong Kong where he went on an interview for an internship next year! Onto the Baby Shower. These 2 pictures are from the big shower of the weekend and truly show how happy I've become recently with food issues, emotional stress and negativity in myself.

This is a picture of the cake that was ordered for me with hand made pink booties and 2 custom made pacifiers with my daughters name on them!

Overall it was the best weekend I've had in a while and although short it was a much needed break from work and Iowa. I need city live to live on. I thrive on traffic, crazy drivers, construction, Whole Foods and Trader Joes. Tomorrow I will be coming back with food pictures, future of my bloggie and a super awesome giveaway! I'm off to try and sleep, all though lately it just doesn't happen:( What is home to you?

I'm back.............

Let's just say after my last post my life got even crazier!! I'm now 35 weeks pregnant expecting a little girl: Claire Elizabeth Hellinga. So the past nine months although I still read everyone's blog, found new ones and commented a few times I've been really boring with everything else. I'm starting back up my site to show how to be a mom, a runner and healthy eater. I've had a revelation while pregnant and although I've been injured the past 2 months and haven't been running, I've still walked a lot. I hope to come back better than ever and connect with more people! Post to come tomorrow with pictures of my belly and this past weekend of shenanigans of my Minneapolis trip home for showers. Hope I still have some followers or will be able to gain some easily!

City is CLOSED

Wow we just got about 6 more inches of snow and it's blowing around like a blizzard out there. When you drive you cant even see across intersections or around you because the piles are SOOO high. Almost everything has closed down and a lot of people are staying put in their houses, myself included! Kodak 09 005 [Desktop Resolution] I tried, keyword "tried" making kale chips and I don't know what I did wrong, but they started burning up at the ends and my house smelled really funny. Maybe some advice, just oil and seasings right? Kodak 09 003 [Desktop Resolution] Pre-run fuel. 1/2 RUNNING: About 7 miles in 65 minutes, wasn't going for anything, just needed to de-stress and this was perfect. Kodak 09 004 [Desktop Resolution] Post-run fuel. Other 1/2. This flavor Larabar was so yummy, I never used to like coconut but I'm beginning to appreciate more as a special addition to good foods. Kodak 09 006 [Desktop Resolution] A semi-nutricious snackplate consisting of an amazing orange and some tortilla chips, missing hummus or guacomole! Next time using a new cookbook for sure! Dinner at work last night was another amazing Progresso soup, flavor was: Southwestern-Style Vegetable. Such great flavor intensity and full of amazing veggies. I give this one an 8/10! Off to relax and then make a fun dinner for the hubs and I while watching college football. Don't forget to enter my Progresso Soup Giveaway, you have until 11:59 (Central time) on Friday, January 8th, 2010. Do you make your own hummus or like store bought kinds? I want to hear the fun flavors you like, I tried lemon and horseradish flavors when I worked at a huge grocery store!
